"When you work with pre-trained AI systems, you're actually working with a collective intelligence of all of us, of all the people who created these images, or all the people who created these sounds, through a machine interpretation of that."
– In this video interview, talented musician and technologist Moisés Horta explains how he uses and develops AI Tools to boost artistic expression. Recently, Horta has been making waves with his innovative project, MUTUALISMX, which blends different artistic styles using sophisticated AI tools.
He collaborated with the Hypereikon Lab in Chile to create unique visual artworks that go beyond traditional imagery. By employing generative neural network models such as Stable Diffusion XL, they managed to produce photorealistic images from their prompts. In particular, they used this Generative AI to explore minerals in a very poetic and abstract visual way.
Throughout the conversation, Horta explains the complex process behind his artwork, which involves a cycling feedback loop of image processing to achieve a surreal aesthetic: "The art project tries to explore this idea of what does it mean to explore different cultures, different musical styles through the perspective of the machine, while having the human at the center."
The tool he developed, the neural audio synthesizer SEMILLA.AI, makes it easier to connect visual art and sound. The goal of this interdisciplinary approach is to bring the human imagination to a higher level. It enables contributions from both established and aspiring artists.
As MUTUALISMX becomes better known, thanks to being featured at festivals like Sónar and Transmediale, Horta hopes more people will use his techniques. He wants to enhance digital art through teamwork and shared creativity. Art lovers are invited to discover this blend of art and technology, offering an exciting look into the future of artistic expression.
